Vanilla Chai Hemp Truffles

These truffles are made of healthy and delicious 100% whole foods. They are perfect for snacking or celebrating!
Nov 17, 2015 | Joy McCarthy

The holiday season is upon us and I absolutely love this time of year because we spend more time with our family and friends, share delicious meals (which means I get busy in the kitchen) and make wonderful memories.

For as long as I can remember we've gotten together with my aunt (mom's sister), uncle and all my cousins around the holidays. Even though we are all grown up and despite everyone's busy schedules we still maintain this tradition. This year it's bigger than ever because all three of my cousins have kids, my brother has 4 kids and now Vienna joins the clan! Then we head south to spend the rest of the holidays to make more wonderful memories with Walker's family. I am looking forward to Vienna's first Christmas with everyone.

So I created this new recipe specifically with the holidays in mind because you know me... I love my sweets but I like them to be healthy too. I also love the essence of chai tea in this recipe. Aaaaand, how cute is this photo below?! haha.

I think they look so pretty rolled in my fave superfood -- Hemp Hearts! And a versatile superfood too because you can use them in savoury dishes or sweet. I always make sure I have a bag or two stocked in my kitchen because I love my salads and often sprinkle them on top for a nice hit of protein. But salads aside, these Vanilla Chai Hemp Truffles are the perfect treat to bring to your next holiday party.

The first time I made them they were just for Walker and I to enjoy. Yes... we ate them all -- over a few days of course. They are an awesome powersnack too because they are jam-packed with good fats, protein and fiber. And you will likely have all the ingredients in your kitchen right now.

You can totally eat the batter because there is NO BAKING required with this recipe.

If you've got little ones, get them to help you with rolling them into balls. It's kinda messy because they are pretty sticky but that's half the fun!

Here's the recipe!

Ingredients
  • 2 tsp chai tea brewed in 1/4 cup hot water (make the brew strong, so let it steep for at least 5 minutes)
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 1/4 cup cashews
  • 12-14 medjol dates
  • 1 tsp vanilla powder or extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup Hemp Hearts
Instructions
  1. Place all ingredients (excluding Hemp Hearts) into a food processor or blender and blend until crumbly, not smooth. The mixture will be sticky, but that's okay. Once you roll them in the Hemp Hearts they won't be sticky. See tips below.
  2. Roll mixture into 1 inch balls and roll in Hemp Hearts. Refrigerate or freeze for 4-5 hours.
  3. Makes 20 balls

Notes

The medjol dates I used were pretty dry, so if you're using dates that are juicy you may need to add more cashews to adjust for the texture of the ball.

There you have it -- Vanilla Chai Hemp Truffles made of healthy and delicious 100% whole foods.

Have a joyous day!

Hi there, I was wondering what food processor you have and if you recommend it. Does it break down nuts for nut butter too? Thanks! Lesley

Just finished making these. They are delicious! The only problem is that when you eat a few, okay 5, there's not a lot left for others. Luckily, I purchased more ingredients to make a double batch. Thank you for this recipe.
