Matcha Collagen Latte

Everyone is talking about collagen these days! I tried it for the first time a few years ago, but just didn't jump on the bandwagon right away. That's all changed now (as you can see in my video below!) :) 

This is because one of my favourite brands of natural health supplements just launched their own collagen - Genuine Health (CONGRATS!!). I got a sneak preview of it before the official launch to give it a test drive.

I've been adding a scoop of Genuine Health's Clean Collagen (see my coupon below!) on a daily basis for the last several weeks. I add it to a warm drink like hot tea but I also LOVE lattes so I've also been mixing it into my matcha latte. Collagen has no flavour or odour either so when you mix it into drinks, all you can taste is the goodness of all the ingredients in the latte, while getting all of the wonderful benefits of the collagen!

Since I've been taking collagen over a month now, the biggest difference I've noticed is that my skin feels softer to the touch. I've also noticed that my skin is less dry, which by this time of year, I'm definitley needing to use more Smooth Like Body Butta! However, all the research into collagen peptides are pretty impressive (beyond skin health) and quite convincing, so I just had to give it a try!

Since I love matcha lattes, I thought this would be the perfect recipe to share with you guys!

Before I get to this this recipe, you might be wondering...

What is collagen?

It is the "glue" that holds our body together and supports our tissue's elastic quality. Being the most abundant protein in the entire body, you'll find collagen in your blood, bones, joint cartilage, ligaments, muscles and skin. It is literally a building block. Speaking of skin, collagen makes up 90% of the dermis of the skin. This is essentially the scaffolding of the skin. This helps the elastic quality of your skin and not surprisingly, one of the most compelling research points about collagen is just how amazing it is for gorgeous, healthy, hydrated and youthful skin

Why is collagen amazing?

Because it actually works! This is one of the reasons it's a huge health trend now. It actually gets absorbed in the gut and research has shown it gets delivered to wherever it is needed. This is one of the reasons it's trendy, because it's proving to be a very effective way to soak up the health benefits such as increasing bone mineral density, improving exercise recovery, cardiovascular health and more. Should you be taking it? 

Everyone (over the age of 18) can benefit from collagen. As of the beginning of your 20's, the collagen in your body begins to decline. By the time we reach our 60's, we have half the amount of collagen that we had in our 20's. Isn't that nuts?! And because there are so many benefits from heart and cardiovascular health, skin health, healthy joints and more, I think it's worth anyone giving it a try!

Let's get to my yummy recipe for this creamy, smooth, perfectly sweet (but not too sweet) matcha latte!

Ingredients
  • 1 scoop Genuine Health collagen (marine or bovine) unflavoured
  • 1 tsp matcha powder
  • 1 tbsp coconut butter (aka manna)
  • 1 tsp raw honey
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • Sprinkle bee pollen
Instructions
  1. In a high power blender, place 1 scoop (10g) collagen, matcha powder, coconut butter, raw honey, almond milk and hot water.
  2. CAUTION: Let the steam from the hot water evaporate before you place the lid on the blender.
  3. Blend on high for 30-60 seconds until nice and creamy.
  4. Pour into a mug and sprinkle with bee pollen.

Thank you for sharing this recipe, Joy. I've been wanting to incorporate collagen into my diet but never really knew how (without just throwing it in my smoothie or my hot tea). Adding it to a matcha latte is the best, and perfect for the winter. Do you think I could also add it to a Turmeric Tea? Can't wait to try!

Hi Joy, I tried the recipe and love the flavor but it was not as hot as I like to drink this kind of beverages. I was wondering if adding hot milk also could alter the collagen properties.
