Golden Smoothie

The hero ingredient in this creamy, healthy and yummy golden smoothie is turmeric. It's an ancient healing food backed by many scientific studies.
Jul 31, 2019 | Joy McCarthy

I'm off on another turmeric kick again! Ever since making my Turmeric Mango Golden Balls a couple of weeks ago – have you tried this recipe yet?! – I've been all about this super spice yet again. It's not the first time this has happened either. You may remember my obsession back when I created the Lazy Lady Latte .

Enter, the Golden Smoothie.

Turmeric Golden Smoothie

Golden milk is a traditional Ayurvedic recipe that dates back thousands of years. It's been used to heal and prevent a number of ailments, including preventing colds and flu, easing muscle and joint pain, clearing skin inflammations, easing digestion and supporting sleep.

The main ingredient in golden milk is turmeric , which accounts for all of its awesome benefits and vibrant yellow hue! I've adapted this delicious traditional recipe into a yummy smoothie that can be enjoyed for a satisfying breakfast or snack.

Golden Smoothie Ingredients

If you love my Lazy Lady Latte and my Turmeric Ginger Iced Latte then this creamy smoothie is a must-try! It's got a lot going for it, too:

  • This soothing smoothie is super packed with anti-inflammatory and detoxifying turmeric!
  • Turmeric is also digestion-friendly! It may also help lower cholesterol, reduce menstrual pain, protect the liver from toxins and soothe an upset stomach by aiding digestion and easing gas and bloating.
  • Turmeric extracts have been shown to be as effective as ibuprofen for the treatment of osteoarthritis, and the rhizome has been recognized by Health Canada as a powerful anti-inflammatory and joint-pain reliever.
  • The cinnamon balances blood sugar and tastes delicious, too. Cinnamon may help people with diabetes lower their blood sugar and LDL cholesterol levels.
  •  Coconut milk adds creaminess of this decadent-tasting smoothie, as well as Medium-Chain Triglycerides (MCTs), which help improve energy and lower inflammation!

Turmeric Golden Smoothie Ingredients

This is the perfect dessert smoothie, but you can enjoy it for breakfast, too. Here's the recipe. I adapted it from the Soothing Golden Smoothie in Joyous Detox.

Turmeric Golden Smoothie

If you add some plant-based protein powder this is a wonderful wake-up-and-shine smoothie! The protein will help balance your blood sugar and boost your metabolic rate for the day. Heck, you could even make this a post-workout smoothie because that's the ideal time to utilize carbs and protein right after a workout!

Turmeric Golden Smoothie

And if you're on a turmeric kick like me, then you should also make a batch of the Golden Balls while you're at it! These recipes will make you feel so good from the inside out :)

This was delicious Joy! Thank you. Do you think it would be an option to use a mix of almond milk and coconut milk?

Looks good! Would there be any reason I couldn’t give kids 2 and up this? It seems like a normal amount of turmeric, but wasn’t sure. THANKS!

This was good. I think I need a Vitamix though as it was gritty. It was also not very cold, so next time I would as some icecubes. My bananas were frozen.

Hi Joy! I attempted to make this golden smoothie but it didn't turn out quite like I expected(texture really thick). I used a frozen banana, and about 1/2 14oz can of coconut milk. I used 3 pitted medjool dates but had to remove them from blender, chop then put back. It all tastes good but any suggestions on better results next time? Thank you
