Summer days are soon coming to an end (SIGH) which means the craziness and busyness of September is just around the corner! Rather than getting sucked into the vortex of stress and anxiety trying to manage everything, let's get you well-equipped to deal with stress effortlessly. This is exactly why the Morning Show invited me in to do a segment on stress busting nutrients and foods.

You have the upper hand on stress when you nourish your body with the right foods so that when stressful situations arise your body can handle it with ease.

You can watch the video here:

The key takeaway from this video is to ensure you eat a wide variety of foods that contain these essential stress-busting nutrients that protect, nourish and relax the body. The top 3 stress busting nutrients and food sources include:

1. Vitamin C - Protection against free radicals caused by stress.

Food sources of Vitamin C:

Basically, all fruits and vegetables provide the body with a wonderful source of usable vitamin C plus a variety of other accessory nutrients. Here are some stand out foods in terms of their level of vitamin C:

Papaya, bell peppers, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, oranges, kiwifruit, cantaloupe, cauliflower, leafy greens and limes.

2. B-Complex Vitamins - Nourishment to the adrenal glands and nervous system.

Food sources of B-Complex Vitamins:

B-complex vitamins are all chemically distinct but are often grouped together because they do in fact work together synergistically.

All animal foods - Eggs, fish, meat, dairy and plant foods such as nuts, seeds, leafy greens, spirulina and avocado.

3. Magnesium - Relax and sooth the nervous system.

Food sources of Magnesium:

Even though magnesium is abundant in food it is one of the most deficient minerals in North Americans as evidenced by the number of people with heart disease and high blood pressure.

Pumpkin seeds, leafy greens, sesame seeds, black beans, quinoa, cashews, sunflower seeds and beet greens.

Of course there is more to it than just nutrition, I've compiled a few of my favourite articles on stress-busting for you here:
