CONTEST CLOSED: WE HAVE A WINNER!!

It’s been a while since I posted a blog because I’ve been a busy bee! I was at the Green Living Show last weekend speaking about organic food in Ontario and demystifying labels on behalf of the Organic Council of Ontario. (And of course, I got myself a few eco-chic treats).

While I was at the show I had the opportunity to walk around and check out various products. To my delight, I came across Green Beaver Company who I already love and I was thrilled that they had news to share!! ......

They now make certified organic lip gloss that will give you “splendicious lips", as per the label. I'm wearing the "Rose" colour in that joyous photo. Along with my gloss to to glam up my lips, I also stocked up on deodorant, hand balm and an SPF 15 for my face.

I have a mad joyous love for Green Beaver because of what they DON’T put in their products and also, because they work! Here’s what they don’t use:

So guess what? You get the chance to win all these Green Beaver products!! HOW TO ENTER:

Share your beauty secret(s) in the comment section below. One winner in North America will be randomly selected next Thursday and sent these fabulously clean products that I love! Yippee!

I can't wait to hear what you all share!

This weekend I’m heading to Vancouver, B.C. for the first time ever in my joyous life! I’m thrilled to be attending (and partnering) with the Canadian Health Food Association (CHFA) show. I am uber excited to check out what’s new in the health products industry and I plan on sharing my fave finds with you next week!

Be joyous,

Joy

Ps. If this is your first joyous visit and you like what you see, then please sign up for my weekly (sometimes bi-weekly) joyous e-newsletter up on the top right. I don’t share your info with anyone and each week you get a joyous update in your lovely inbox.

As a yoga instructor I teach sometimes 5 classes a day... This could be my skins best friend or worst enemy. When you're sweating, always always always wash face before and immediately after exercise to keep pores clean when open. Dry brush on a daily basis, always brushing towards your heart with the exception of your face (just go crazy!!) and for a glow like no other.... Juice fast!! In just a matter of days skin clears and your inner shine will radiate :)

The best natural deodorant is the Weleda Rose spray deodorant! It works so well without the chemicals and smells so fresh and clean (I buy this at Whole Foods). I also use Apricot Kernel Oil as a moisturizer for my body, it's just the pure oil and cheaper than most natural oils. Lavender mixed with water put in a spray bottle is great for a refreshment any time of day and keeps skin healthy without any irritation! Most importantly I notice my skin is at best when I eat lots of fruits and vegetables throughout the day (especially organic), drink lots of water, cut out sugar, and make sure to incorporate omega-3s in my diet.

My beauty secrets include: Smile every day; practice the attitude of gratitude and give thanks to all things positive that are in your life; surround yourself with loving, supportive people who add joy and happiness to your life; and eat nutrient-dense, real food, avoiding any packaged processed foods that have over 5 ingredients listed on their labels. I do love coconut oil as well and dry skin brushing before every shower or bath. I am also a tea fanatic, and drink over 5 cups a day, mostly loose leaf green teas and matcha tea. Tea is such good medicine for the mind, body, and soul, and I find there's a tea to fit every need. Drinking tea is also a great way to add extra hydration, which plumps up the skin and give a youthful glow. I'm loving all the comments posted so far. Such good tips from all. Best, Kaley :)

I use coconut oil for nearly everything! I also maintain a healthy diet with lots of water and green tea and foods like kale, avocado, and nuts that help my skin and hair. Finally, I exercise regularly and use a dry body brush to keep my skin soft and free of toxins! :)

Hi Joy! Great post! Green Beaver is a great company, their products are wonderful. :) My beauty secret is actually not a secret at all because I love sharing it - raw coconut oil! (which I first learned about from reading your blog!) It's my moisturizer, hair conditioner, and hand lotion. Coconut oil also makes all of my baking and cooking recipes absolutely scrumptious. Nothing but love for coco oil!:)

Wow!! These have been great replies with wonderful ideas that I will definitely be trying out! Thanks so much everyone! For my own use...it's pretty simple too: not much for make-up, just soap and water, coconut oil is primo! Start each and everyday with a greens + water drink! Throughout the day, Hydrate!! and move the body. Become aware of the product and food choices you make - work toward clean, simple, and nutrient dense! It's one step at a time on our continual path of learning! Be accepting to finding joy and above all be grateful. Each breath is a gift!

1.At least 30 minutes each and every day for "me" time: any type of exercise or simply a walk in the sun (or the rain!); meditation/prayer/silence or just being still listening to music; infrared sauna (my fave); non-chorinated salt (Himalayan, Mustard) bath; several cuppas o' herbal tea with a good read. 2.Clean and nutritious eating and drinking. 3.Clean and nutritious cosmetics. 4. Gratitude, positivity and love.

The biggest thing I've noticed is eating more fats like fish oil, coconut oil and avocado. My skin and hair has imroved and aren't as dry as they used to be!

Hi Joy! LOVE your blog...especially your video blogs! My "Green Beauty Secret" (which apparently isn't much of a secret since a lot of the comments agree) is to use coconut oil for everything. My favourite use for it is to moisturize my hair every month or so. I am prone to dry hair because I live in the mountains in Whistler BC where the weather is fairly harsh and I spend A LOT of time outside. Coconut oil brings luster back to my hair and skin - I use it topically and internally.

I am from the U.S., I am 21 years and I've made a conscious effort towards beautifying my life with greens and simple ingredients. I have so many things I do for my skin/beauty: 1. Drink water with chia seeds for quick energy, and drink warm water with honey and lemon in the morning. Add organic bilberry extract to water for shiny eyes... :) 2. TAKE PROBIOTICS, HAIR VITAMINS, SUPERFRUIT LIQUID SUPPLEMENT, AND FISH OIL for great skin and hair. I am adding Dr. Weil's monthly supplements into the mix. 3. Exercise daily for glowing skin, doesn't matter what... A power walk in the am, some yoga or a DVD... Detox skin by creating a steam room in the bathroom and massage skin with oil in steam, then after a couple of minutes.. rinse with cold water! ALSO exfoliate with honey, brown sugar, and sea salt or use baking soda and sugar with olive oil and some lotion 3. Add ACV into clay masks, into MAYO for a face mask, and apply at night on bumpy areas of skin, also add with egg for a face mask, and rinse hair for deep cleansing... 4. ADD HONEY into moisturizer... I use olive oil and derma gel 5. DO CAROLYNS FACIAL FITNESS for a natural facelift 6. BE HAPPY! MEDITATE AND DANCE AND SING! :) :) :) 7. Moisturize with almond oil, coco, olive and use butter based product after oil to seal 8. For hair put egg, mayo, olive oil in hair for protein and allow to hair dry for 1-2 hours and then add moisture back into hair with coco oil, neem, almond mixed in with suave condish under hair dryer for 30 mins... MAKES MY HAIR SO SOFT.... AND AVOID SULFATES AND CONES!!! SO BAD FOR HAIR. 9. STEAM SKIN, and use a pore extractor... ADD WHITE TEA, GREEN TEA, ROSE PETALS, etc to steam :) 10. Oil pulling sometimes with EVOO, and rinsing with baking soda and some sea salt for teeth whitening I think I have some more but I need to study I have exams this week.. haaha. Some of my beauty product must haves right now: 1. PMD 2. Dr. Weils Customized Vitamin Packs 3. Vitamin E oil for night time application 4. Vitamin C serum (organic) 5. A GOOD SUNSCREEN... Right now I use Bare Escentuals Make up as my main sunscreen.. :/ I am looking into Aubrey Organics or Avalon Organics.. something cheap... 6. Rosewater and Glycerin for feet, hair... :) 7. Jason Satin Soap for bath 8. A good natural toothpaste I hope you all enjoy my list... I really would love to try Green Beaver because it is not based in the U.S. and I just really need lip glosses right now, and the products seem amazing!!! I am a poor college student and I try my best to be healthy and not stressed because I know it will benefit me in my late twenties... I also try to limit drinking and avoid smokers.. All in all, I love Joyous Health, and you, Joy! I see myself in your shoes one day! ONE LOVE!

My beauty secret for hair is FLAXSEED GEL. Here’s the recipe: - In a saucepan, bring to a boil ¼ cup whole flaxseed and 1 cup water. - Let boil for 15 – 30 seconds (depending on preferred gel consistency; the longer it cooks, the thicker it gets). - Remove from heat and strain into a glass jar. Discard seeds. - Store for in refrigerator, keeps for up to 2 weeks. - Add gel to wet or dry hair. Options: *For extra hold, add a few small pieces of beeswax to bottom of jar. Strain hot gel over wax and stir until all melted. This is a great alternative to hair spray. *Add a few drops of your fav essential oil for a pretty scent. Play with the flaxseed/water ratios, cooking time and amounts of beeswax (a few mung bean-size pieces usually does it) to create a consistency and hold that works for your hair. This recipe is prefect for my fine hair.

I look my best when I am eating healthy (lots of greens and veggies!), when I sleep enough (8 hours/night for me) and am not stressed out (lots of yoga, keeping things in perspective, etc.). My beauty secret really isn't a secret at all - it's more of a lifestyle that most people already know about but many don't follow. I live as clean and natural a life as I can. That includes everything and anything I put in or on my body, even right down to the things I live around (including cleaning supplies, furniture, clothing, etc). I have lived this way - or tried to at least - for most of my adult life. It's only getting easier and easier, with all the great products available (such as Green Beaver - I'm a HUGE fan!) and the awareness being generated by people such as yourself, Joy!

I’ve had rosacea for many years now, so using quality products that won’t irritate my skin is very important to me. In my search for natural health products that would help keep my condition under control, I’ve stumbled upon an all natural, fragrance free moisturizer called Glacier: a calendula cream for sensitive skin. But most importantly, I find that while products can prove disappointing, sleep, water and a ridiculous amount of beautifying greens will always, always do a world of good.

Sometimes I mix plain yogurt with coarse sugar for a nice facial scrub, I use a ripe avocado and slather it on my face once a week and leave on for an awesome hydrating mask. Adding milk and honey to my bath water and I use the gel inside my aloe plant for a facial mask as well once a week. All of these leave my skin feeling oh so great without spending a ton of money on facial products laden with chemicals!

These days it seems like there is so much external influence persuading us to try this new diet, slather on this expensive cream, do this hot new exercise routine 6x a week! However, the older I get, the more I've learned that the best beauty trick is to LISTEN TO MY BODY. Sure, I like to get 8-9 hrs of sleep a night, drink H2O, moisturizer with coconut oil & eat a plant-based diet. But really, all of that is done in vain if I'm bit truly in connection with my own body. So I always encourage everyone to reconnect with themselves. Our bodies tell us what they need in every moment, all we need do is listen. <3
