Cherries and chocolate together in the same recipe have always been a good idea. When I was a teenager my go-to ice cream was Ben & Jerry's "Cherry Garcia" which was chunks of cherries along with chocolate for a perfect match. Do you remember that?!
Now that I'm all grown up and still love this combo, I make this creamy, delicious and super healthy smoothie bowl with wonderful whole-foods based ingredients!
This smoothie bowl is totally plant-based. Packed with protein, fibre and nutritients to keep you satisfied and energized!
You might be wondering why add the zucchini?
Along with avocado, it is the ultimate secret smoothie hack for adding creaminess and thickening it up without sacrificing flavour. Zucchini is a great low carb squash that is rich in both soluble and insoluble fibre making it excellent for gut health.
You need both avocado and zucchini to make a thick smoothie bowl. If it's too thin in consistency, then your crunchy and yummy toppings will sink right to the bottom!
I used my favourite protein powder, Genuine Health's fermented, organic vegan proteins+ chocolate flavour! This is my go-to protein because it is excellent for gut health since all 7 plant proteins are fermenting making the proteins highly bioavailable. But you probably already knew that if you're a regular reader here ;)
There's not much thinking required to make this recipe, plop all the ingredients into a blender, give it a blitz and then get creative with your toppings.
Serves 2 generously or 4 modestly.
And you know what? I don't even miss that Cherry Garcia one bit!

Looks delicious. Is it possible to substitute cacao powder for the protein powder?
ReplyYes absolutely! You could add a little honey or stevia if it's not sweet enough.
